In 1812 England, Lady Annabelle Marchant enjoyed the balls until she used her psychic powers to save a life, but failed. The man died and she became a pariah.

Lady Terrance pleads with Annabelle to help the ghost of her murdered late husband. Her son Lord Rufus demands Annabelle leave his family manor in Cheshire and preferably the village too as he has no time for frivolous females trying to trap him in marriage. The monarch warned Rufus he will explain his activity to the House of Lords as he is the only suspect in his father’s homicide. As Rufus investigates, additional killings occur and an angry ghost is running amuck. Reluctantly, Annabelle and Rufus team up to identify the real killer and enable the late Lord Terrance to obtain some peace before the new lord becomes a victim.

A Beastly Scandal is an entertaining paranormal Victorian amateur sleuth romance. The storyline is fast-paced while also enabling the audience to believe in the heroine’s psychic skills and ghosts exist. Although the protagonists’ attraction feels intrusive especially early in the otherwise engaging storyline, sub-genre fans will enjoy the exploits of the ghost whisperer and the murder suspect uniting in love to end a killer’s reign of terror.

41,646 days ago in Pennsylvanian genie dropout inept Vana Aphrodite struggled with control of her power while making her master Peter’s life chaotic and crazy.  If she could do one thing for Peter, it would be to convince his family that he is not crazy when he talks about his genie.

Over a centuty later, the late Peter’s descendent football star Zane Harrison arrives at his family’s Pennsylvania estate.  When he opens a trunk in the attic that once belonged to Peter, Zane learns that his lunatic relative was not crazy when he meets Vana.  Zane blames her for his family’s devastated reputation that still haunts the Harrison clan decades after his great-grandfather died.  Vana is shocked by her attraction to her new master, but he coldly informs her he will sell the estate genie and all while she affirms that she remains magically incompetent.

This is an entertaining madcap urban fantasy romance starring a hapless genie and an angry football player who find love in a bottle.  With a delightful twist as to why Vana stinks at magic and a warm nod to I Dream of Genie and Bewitched, fans will never look at chess the same way as this is a jocular romantic madcap frolic.

Alistair Archer and Jenny Henderson are walking in the tunnels under the defunct Claymore Illusions special effects studio and the still running Black Box Cinema.  Out of one of the classic sets from the 1940s a hand with a knife slashes the starlet.  The police suspect only Alistair of murdering Jenny as there is no evidence to prove anyone else was down there though he insists the culprit looked like Amun Mopat, an evil priest from the Sam Stone tableau.

FBI Agent Sean Cameron, who used to work for Alistair’s father Eddie the genius behind the special effects studio, investigates what looks like an open and shut case.  Eddie recommends to Sean that his employee Madison Darvil might be helpful with his inquiry.  Eddie and Madison share in common the ability to communicate with ghosts and an attraction to each other.  As she fits in with him and his team, they search for the real killer of Jenny Henderson.

This Krewe of Hunters romantic urban fantasy (see The Evil Inside) is an enjoyable investigative mystery due to a strong case and fun references to the 1930s and 1940s film noirs like Madison getting assistance from Bogart’s ghost.  The storyline is fast-paced as the Krewe and Madison seek clues to the identity of the killer using any available source.  In some ways the nostalgic trip down cinema history steals top billing from the lead couple and his team; as Bogie might say “Here’s looking at you,” Krewe.

In 1814 London, Sir James Smiley, Esq. sends a letter to Thea Martin asking for her to come see him.  Thea assumes her brother the duke has found some other means to ruin her for eloping with Boyd Martin.  Now a widow with two sons (seven years old Jonathan and five years old Christopher) hopes instead that it is a lucrative matchmaking commission like the one she did for Peter Goodfellow.

Sir James’ client Neal Hattan, Lord Lyon, needs a wife but must wed someone he does not love to prevent the activation of the family curse; Fenella the witch cursed the Chattan clan centuries ago so any who foolishly falls in love die young.  Neither he nor his siblings (Harry and Margaret) want an early demise so in their own respective way avoid entanglements of the heart.  Thea and Neal know each other as she thought at one time he loved her before he ended their friendship abruptly.  As she searches for a mate he will never love, Thea knows her client still owns her heart while Neal knows the matchmaker owns his.

The first Chattan Curse regency paranormal romance is an intriguing historical as Neal and Thea are in love, but she learns to her horror the curse exists.  Action-packed yet character driven by the actions and reactions of the three siblings (and the first beloved) to the curse, Lyon’s Bride is a strong opening act.

Except for visits to her widower dad, Dani Shane never planned to return to Bethany, Texas as she knew she was the nutcase who did not belong.  However, having lost her position as a graphic designer in Dallas due to downsizing, she and her sixteen year old daughter Riley move back home to live with Dani’s Pop.

Dani is taken aback when she sees Riley chatting with her childhood friend Alex.  As a teen she wanted him, but he was too old for her; and besides he has been dead for over four decades.  She did not anticipate Riley inheriting her ability to see ghosts.  Though she still is attracted to him, Dani’s first concern is easing Riley’s awareness of ghosts and how to conceal her unwanted gift so she is not labeled crazy.  She obtains work at the Bait-n-Feed.  Distracted, Dani rear ends Jason Mller’s BMW.  She says she will take care of the damage, but he is nasty.  He follows her to the store where she learns he is the A-hole owner of Bait-n-Feed.  Dani revises her original opinion of Mr. Miller as she soon finds herself attracted to her boss and her ghostly BFF.

The Reason Is You is a wonderful paranormal family drama starring a beleaguered heroine who wants to keep her teenage daughter safe from the anguish and ridicule she suffered.  Her life is complicated enough from ghost morphing through walls, but made more convoluted when she feels fickle for falling in love with two males.  Readers will enjoy Dani’s homecoming as she learns life is the rose as much or more so as the thorn.

In 1820, affluent ducal daughter Lady Madeline Hayburn has become wary of males as fortune hunters seem to do anything to force her to marry them.  During a full moon, Maddie is shocked when she sees her new neighbor Mr. Weston Hadley turn into a wolf.  However, Maddie is not half as stunned as Weston is that he carelessly let someone see him shift.

He believes they have no choice except to marry, but he expects her to decline his offer as he knows Maddy runs from the impoverished lords and besides beauty never marries the beast.  Instead, Maddie accepts his offer but demands they immediately elope to Gretna Green.  As they head to Scotland, there is plenty of pursuit and not all on her side.

The latest Team Dare Regency romantic fantasy (see Taming of the Wolf, Never Been Bit, It Happened One Bite and In the Heat of the Bite) is a bewitching historical.  The storyline is a beguiling Lycan rendition of Beauty and the Beast with plenty of humor (mostly from the potential “mother of his mutts”) and danger (even her father who loves and spoils Maddy wants to cut off Weston’s head).

In 1835 in San Antonio, someone brutally murders a woman in room 207 of the Longhorn Saloon.  One year ago in the same location as the nineteenth century homicide, another woman was apparently killed, but her body vanished.  One month ago, battered dead young female bodies begin to appear all over city; some disappeared a long time ago.

Texas Ranger Logan Raintree leads a task force of paranormal law enforcement operatives investigating the murders.  While he communicates with the dead, on his team is U.S. Marshal Kelsey O’Brien who sees the past.  She is staying at the Longhorn where the 1835 and last year homicides occurred.  The pair combines their extrasensory perception skills to obtain clues from the deceased in order to end a serial killer’s reign of terror.

The Unseen is an exciting paranormal police procedural starring two dedicated individuals with special talent and San Antonio.  The city comes alive during The Texas War of Independence and in the present; especially vivid is the Alamo.  Although the gory killings somewhat diminish the frightening level, fans will enjoy Heather Graham’s entertaining ghost story.

University professor Annie Travis wonders what has happened to her vanished twin cousins (Alice in Taken by Passion and Alexei in Claimed by Pleasure) as the anniversary date one year apart comes.  Aunt Awai arrives with food and tells her about being a Domme at a BDSM club.  Auntie takes her niece there.  The shapeshifting King of Diamonds Karn escorts Annie into his realm; just like his brothers did before him with her cousins.

However, as she falls in love with her mentor, he conceals his feelings due to his past deeds that make him feel unworthy of this intellectual passionate woman who owns his heart.  The Diamond King tells his captive to go home; expecting the reaction of a mouse fleeing for her hole.  Instead Annie proves a lioness when it comes to her man as she refuses to let him run from what she believes they share unless he looks her in the eyes and says he does not love her.

The third Wonderland erotic romance is an enjoyable tale starring a shy big babe academia with a southern upbringing and the outgoing King of Diamonds with a beastly demeanor.  The storyline is fast-paced as Annie learns why Awai says the sub has the true power over the dom as the mentor gets mentored in love.
